Connect Gemini CLI to Apple iMessage
Yes, Gemini CLI can read your Messages, both iMessage and text conversations. Pomeroy connects Gemini CLI to Messages on your Mac, so it can find a conversation, search your message history, and read a thread when you ask. Pomeroy cannot send messages or replies, and it never asks for Full Disk Access; it only reads.

How to connect gemini cli to apple imessage
Pomeroy lists the assistants it finds on this Mac, so install Gemini CLI first if it is not there yet.
- 1
Download Pomeroy and switch on Apple iMessage.
Open the download, drag Pomeroy into Applications, and open it. Pomeroy opens a setup window listing every app it can connect. There is no macOS prompt for Messages. Instead, a file dialog opens and you hand Pomeroy the one file Messages keeps your conversations in. Pomeroy keeps a read-only bookmark to it and never asks for Full Disk Access.
- 2
Press Set up beside Gemini CLI.
Pomeroy runs Gemini CLI's own mcp add command with user scope, so Pomeroy is there in every project rather than one folder.
- 3
Check Gemini CLI.
Run gemini mcp list and pomeroy is listed. Inside a session, /mcp shows it with its tools. Start a new Gemini CLI session.
- 4
Ask Gemini CLI something.
Try “Find the message with the door code.” and a real answer comes back.
The configuration, in full
Set up writes it for you. The documentation has the exact text, where it goes, and how to check it worked.
Can Gemini CLI read my Messages?
Yes. Once you switch Messages on in Pomeroy, Gemini CLI can list your recent conversations, search the text of every message, and read one conversation's recent messages.
Can Gemini CLI reply to a message?
No. Pomeroy cannot send messages, so it cannot either. It can draft a reply for you to copy into Messages and send yourself.
How does Pomeroy get access to Messages?
You hand it the one file Messages keeps your conversations in, through a normal macOS file dialog. Pomeroy keeps a read-only bookmark to that file and never asks for Full Disk Access. Switch Messages off and the bookmark is all it loses.
Is it safe to give Gemini CLI access to iMessage?
It is as safe as pasting the same messages into Gemini CLI yourself. Pomeroy reads only the one file you picked, keeps a read-only bookmark to it, and has no tool that can send, so it cannot reply as you or be talked into it. What Gemini CLI reads becomes part of your conversation with Gemini CLI, the same as text you paste in, so ask about the messages you would be happy to paste.
Is this the same as Anthropic's iMessage plugin?
No. Anthropic's iMessage plugin is for Claude Code: it reads the Messages database directly, needs Full Disk Access for your Terminal, and sends replies through Messages so you can text Gemini CLI from your phone. Pomeroy is a separate app, made by Joe Saunderson and not by Anthropic. It reads only the one file you pick, never asks for Full Disk Access, and cannot send anything.
Gemini CLI does not show Pomeroy's tools.
Start a new Gemini CLI session; a running one keeps the tool list it started with. Then press Set up again in Pomeroy, under Settings › Assistants: every way Pomeroy sets an assistant up is safe to run twice. Pomeroy's menu bar shows whether Gemini CLI is connected right now.
