How to connect codex to apple notes

Pomeroy lists the assistants it finds on this Mac, so install Codex first if it is not there yet.

    Download Pomeroy and switch on Apple Notes.

    Open the download, drag Pomeroy into Applications, and open it. Pomeroy opens a setup window listing every app it can connect. macOS asks whether Pomeroy may control Notes, which is how one Mac app reads another's notes. The prompt names Pomeroy, and nothing is requested until you flip the toggle.

    Press Set up beside Codex.

    Pomeroy runs Codex's own codex mcp add command, which writes to Codex's configuration file. The CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app all read that one file, so you set up once. If the codex command is not where Pomeroy can find it, Pomeroy adds the entry to the file itself.

    Check Codex.

    Run codex mcp list in the Terminal and pomeroy is listed. In the ChatGPT app, Settings › MCP servers shows it. Quit Codex and open it again.

    Try “Find my note about the boiler pressure.” and a real answer comes back.

Can Codex read my Apple Notes?

Yes. Once you switch Notes on in Pomeroy, Codex can list your notes by name and read any one of them in full. Note bodies come back as plain text.

Can Codex change or delete a note?

No. Codex can create a new note, and that is the only writing it does. An existing note is never edited, moved, or deleted.

Is it safe to connect Codex to Apple Notes?

Pomeroy reads your notes on your Mac and sends nothing to a Pomeroy server. What Codex reads becomes part of your conversation, the same as text you paste in. Notes starts switched off, and you can switch it off again at any time. Pomeroy is an independent app, not made by Anthropic.

Codex does not show Pomeroy's tools.

Quit Codex completely and open it again; it reads its configuration when it starts. Then press Set up again in Pomeroy, under Settings › Assistants: every way Pomeroy sets an assistant up is safe to run twice. Pomeroy's menu bar shows whether Codex is connected right now.
