How to connect codex to apple maps

Pomeroy lists the assistants it finds on this Mac, so install Codex first if it is not there yet.

    Download Pomeroy and switch on Apple Maps.

    Open the download, drag Pomeroy into Applications, and open it. Pomeroy opens a setup window listing every app it can connect. Maps needs no macOS permission prompt. The maps actions take place names, not your location, so there is nothing for macOS to ask about.

    Press Set up beside Codex.

    Pomeroy runs Codex's own codex mcp add command, which writes to Codex's configuration file. The CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app all read that one file, so you set up once. If the codex command is not where Pomeroy can find it, Pomeroy adds the entry to the file itself.

    Check Codex.

    Run codex mcp list in the Terminal and pomeroy is listed. In the ChatGPT app, Settings › MCP servers shows it. Quit Codex and open it again.

    Ask Codex something.

    Try “How long will it take to drive to Bristol?” and a real answer comes back.

Can Codex use Apple Maps?

Yes. Once you switch Maps on in Pomeroy, Codex can search for places near a named place and route between two named places, driving or walking, with the distance and the expected time.

Does this share my location?

No. The maps actions take place names, like Borough Market, never coordinates. Pomeroy has a separate Location toggle for the one action that reads where your Mac is, and it stays off unless you switch it on.

Can Codex plan a train journey?

No. Apple does not route public transport on a Mac, so Pomeroy offers driving and walking only. For a train journey, Codex can still tell you the walking route to the station.

Codex does not show Pomeroy's tools.

Quit Codex completely and open it again; it reads its configuration when it starts. Then press Set up again in Pomeroy, under Settings › Assistants: every way Pomeroy sets an assistant up is safe to run twice. Pomeroy's menu bar shows whether Codex is connected right now.
