Connect goose to Apple Maps

Yes, goose can use Apple Maps. Pomeroy connects goose to Apple Maps on your Mac, so it can find places, get driving or walking directions, and tell you how long a journey should take. The maps actions take place names, never your location.

What goose can do in Apple Maps

  • Find places near a named place, with addresses and, where Maps has them, phone numbers and websites.
  • Route between two named places, driving or walking, with the distance and the expected time.

How to connect goose to apple maps

Pomeroy lists the assistants it finds on this Mac, so install goose first if it is not there yet.

  1. 1

Download Pomeroy and switch on Apple Maps.

Open the download, drag Pomeroy into Applications, and open it. Pomeroy opens a setup window listing every app it can connect. Maps needs no macOS permission prompt. The maps actions take place names, not your location, so there is nothing for macOS to ask about.

  2. 2

    Press Set up beside goose.

Pomeroy puts an extensions entry on your clipboard. Paste it into goose's config.yaml, keeping any extensions already there.

  3. 3

    Paste it into goose.

Paste the configuration into ~/.config/goose/config.yaml. In goose, the extensions list (Settings › Extensions in the desktop app, or goose configure in the Terminal) shows Pomeroy enabled. Start a new goose session.

  4. 4

    Ask goose something.

Try “How long will it take to drive to Bristol?” and a real answer comes back.

The configuration, in full

Set up writes it for you. The documentation has the exact text, where it goes, and how to check it worked.

Can goose use Apple Maps?

Yes. Once you switch Maps on in Pomeroy, goose can search for places near a named place and route between two named places, driving or walking, with the distance and the expected time.

Does this share my location?

No. The maps actions take place names, like Borough Market, never coordinates. Pomeroy has a separate Location toggle for the one action that reads where your Mac is, and it stays off unless you switch it on.

Can goose plan a train journey?

No. Apple does not route public transport on a Mac, so Pomeroy offers driving and walking only. For a train journey, goose can still tell you the walking route to the station.

goose does not show Pomeroy's tools.

Start a new goose session; a running one keeps the tool list it started with. Then press Set up again in Pomeroy, under Settings › Assistants: every way Pomeroy sets an assistant up is safe to run twice. Pomeroy's menu bar shows whether goose is connected right now.
